CanyonArts Festival is the brainchild of Jahn Hoover and Renate Medley who, while trail riding in the beautiful Santiam forest above Mill City, pondered what might encourage more people to enjoy this pristine landscape. Deep green ancient forest, well maintained trails for hiking and horseback riding, and a river challenge for rafts and kayaks, and yet tourism was minimal. That day Jahn and Renate decided to create an event that would bolster hometown pride and boost local business in a weakened economy.
Perhaps a major cultural arts festival would do the trick! Evolving from Jahn's earlier fitness and fashion show, and backed by Santiam Hearts to Arts, a nonprofit for the arts founded by Renate and her husband Mike, the CanyonArts Festival was born in 2010.
In 2011 we doubled our size and activity. We our doubled the visitors too, and hope that your attendance in 2012 will keep our steady plan for growth on track. Mark your calendars; follow your heart, and join us for the CanyonArts Festival May 19th., 2012
